The EEXI will be in force very soon. That will require all vessels to hold a revised IEE certificate. To have that and maintain the right to operate, all vessels must renew their IAPP certificates latest at the first annual, intermediate or renewal survey – from January 1st 2023
The certification of EEXI (i.e. revising International Energy Efficiency (IEE) Certificate) will take place at the first annual, intermediate or renewal survey of the International Air Pollution Prevention (IAPP) Certificate on or after 1st January 2023 for ships delivered before 1st January 2023, or at the initial survey of IEE Certificate for ships delivered on or after 1st January 2023. The verification of EEXI shall be completed by the date of the survey.
Therefore, it is already now crucial for all shipping companies and managers, to know well in advance whether their ships are in compliance with EEXI or actions need to be taken.
Non-compliance detected in the last minute will be difficult or impossible to solve.
Naval DME initial EEXI service is the smart way to map out, what is needed and establish a plan for most economical action, for non-compliant vessels, to come into compliance. Preparing for sufficient time to take action before renewal deadline January 1st 2023, is therefore essential.
(Clarkson research estimates that 50% of ships build under EEDI will NOT comply with EEXI)
